THE „MUST-HAVE“ OF THE SEASON FROM 2025 – GO COATING FOR CHROMIUM-FREE ELECTRIC STRIP COATINGS
Many attempts have been already made to use benign alternatives in electric strip coating. Chromium trioxide derivates are now classified as CMR substances and the unrestricted use of these substances expired in the EU on the 21st of September 2017. Therefore, a change to chrome-free solutions is indispensable.
The use of chromium trioxide has only been possible in the EU with an authorisation in the past three years. It is expected that the European Commission will grant the permits by 21st of September 2024. In addition, an EU-wide harmonisation of workplace concentration limits is planned. Since chromates are hardly replaceable due to their excellent hydrolysis and corrosion resistance as well as their good electro-insulating properties, equivalent solutions have to be developed. Our paint experts worked intensively on an innovation and have now achieved the breakthrough: REMISOL EB 5320 is an innovative chrome-free coating system. Its hydrolysis and corrosion resistance is on a par with chromium(VI)-based coatings.
REMISOL EB 5320
The new chrome-free coating system REMISOL EB 5320 generates a tensile stress of the insulation layer on the substrate. The product is available as a clear or pigmented version. With pigmentation, we achieve the homogeneous appearance of the coated electric strip as requested by many steel manufacturers. Without any loss of quality, the 1-component system lasts for months and is a more environmentally friendly alternative.
